Girls golf proves growing strength of the program

Last year, the girls golf team made program history by winning the Prep League, sending girls to the individual playoffs for the first time. This year was an example of their continued strength, talent, and new depth. The Panthers sent their top players to compete in the individual regional tournament last Monday. The girls played exceptional rounds with freshman Madeleine Kwei finishing first with a winning score of 126 after two rounds. She was named MVP and received All-Prep League honor. Senior Lauren Park took second falling short by one stroke, also receiving All-Prep League honor. The team earned the title of co-league champions with Mayfield Senior. However, because Poly’s five best scores were better than Mayfield’s, Poly represented the Prep League in the CIF-SS Eastern Team Championship Tournament. They traveled to Jurupa Hills Golf Course on Monday, Oct. 30. They played a tough course well. Although they did not qualify to advance to the CIF-SS/SCGA team qualifier, the Panthers wrapped up their season knowing they have a lot of young talent for future seasons to come.
