Portals to Possibility

Information today comes in many different forms, and the goal of the Poly libraries and librarians is to ensure that our students master all the myriad ways to access and evaluate information during their educational careers and beyond. We feature two separate, comprehensive facilities: the Lower and Middle School Library and the Upper School Library. These facilities bring together diverse media, classroom instruction, the latest research tools, and thoughtful collections. On both campuses, our libraries serve as dynamic hubs of community, fostering not only reading and research, but also social connection, creative expression, and the celebration of scholarship.

Lower and Middle School Library

From Reading to Research

Even in the information age, Poly will always remain a school devoted to reading. We seek to foster a love of words, stories, and ideas from the very beginning. We also build students’ ability and confidence with basic research concepts beginning in kindergarten and continuing through fifth grade. In Middle School, we prepare students to take on larger research projects and more creative ways of presenting their ideas.

In all these pursuits, the Lower and Middle School Library is a vital tool. It houses dedicated teaching space for Lower School weekly library classes on the first floor, with research areas for Middle School students on the second floor, alongside a fully-equipped media center and an open-air deck overlooking the San Gabriel Mountains.

Mission Statement

The Poly Libraries provide a dynamic and student-centered learning environment dedicated to supporting the diverse needs of the Poly community. Our library staff are collaborative partners committed to providing personalized and tailored services to meet our students' individual needs and curricular goals. We believe in the power of books and readers and are passionate about fostering a love of literature in all Poly community members. We strive to provide access to books that reflect the diverse experiences and perspectives of our students. We are committed to supporting research and learning by providing various resources that deepen student understanding and broaden their perspective. We are dedicated to empowering all our students to be critical consumers of information and fostering their intellectual curiosity.

Upper School Library

Honing research skills for college and beyond

At the Upper School, teachers and librarians work in partnership to deliver an advanced curriculum. Complex coursework requires students to transform substantial independent research into cogent, well-supported arguments. The Upper School librarians act as dedicated guides, helping students focus their questions and hone the research skills they will need to excel in college. In addition to a rich book collection, the library is equipped with a substantial online collection of books, journals and periodicals, enabling students to conduct large portions of their research from home, at any time they need to study.
