Eighth grade girls soccer take home the trophy

Poly hosted the seasonal Prep League Tournament for girls soccer yesterday. The Panthers faced Mayfield Junior at Caltech for the semifinal game. Last Friday, the girls faced Mayfield Junior in their last game of the regular season and tied 1-1. Poly was ready for the rematch. It was a tough game, but the Panthers came out victorious, beating Mayfield 3-2 and advancing to the tournament finals, where they faced league rivals Chandler School. Chandler beat Flintridge Prep in the semifinals, advancing them to the final round. The two faced off immediately following their semifinal matches. They took to Babcock Field in a back-and-forth game, with the Panthers claiming the title of Prep League tournament champions, beating Chandler 2-1.

Last week, the boys basketball team also made it to the finals in their Prep League Tournament. They also faced Mayfield Junior in their semifinal match and beat them by 14 points with a final score of 54-40. The Panthers faced Chandler in their home gym. It was a very close and exciting game. At the end of regulation, the score was tied, forcing the game to go to overtime. After the first overtime period, the game was still tied forcing the teams into double-overtime, with the Panthers losing 42-46 to Chandler in a tight game.
