Head West Young Panthers!

The Panthers ventured west along the 210 to Monrovia to face the Wildcats for a friendly scrimmage to kick off the preseason.  The match was slightly delayed because the selfless and dedicated Wildcats were hosting a blood drive to save lives.  Good Job CATS!

The Panthers got off to a rough start missing eight serves and dropping the first set 19-25.  But they rebounded for the next two set, behind pinpoint passing from their serve receive to take the middle sets 25-22 and 25-18.

The Panthers took a lethargic, mishmash approach to the fourth set and it showed.  Their passing, hitting and blocking efficiency all took a dive as they waited for the game to be interrupted for time.

But the B-ball Wildcats didn't arrive so the Panthers were plunged into a fifth set.   The shortened fifth set saw the Wildcats sprint to an early lead, but the Panthers roared ahead behind key blocks from their front line, to take the last set 15-13.

Varsity coach Lillian "Hold On" Calvert described the fifth set, "It got a little chippy out there.  Despite it being a preseason scrimmage both teams wanted the symbolic win in their column."

Freshman opposite Ryan "Everything You Own" Keltner described his experience, "It was good to get on the court and chop in up.  The competitiveness definitely intensified in the last set."

Sophomore defensive specialist Cody "It's a kind of Magic" Converse said, "After they hit Mama Lillard in the face we all knew what we had to do!  This "W" is for you Mrs. Lillard!"
