Girls Varsity Volleyball Ready for Second Round of Prep League Play

The Girls Varsity Volleyball team finished their first round of league play on Thursday, September 14, on the road at Rio Hondo Preparatory School where the Panthers defeated the Kares in three straight sets. This victory was on the heels of a big win at Mayfield Senior School on Tuesday, September 12.

The rivalry between the Panthers and the Cubs runs deep, trading wins with every season. This season, the Panthers hit the road first, playing in a packed and rowdy Mayfield gym. Despite Mayfield having the home-court advantage, it was Poly who struck first, taking charge of the game and winning the first two sets (28-25, 25-21). The third set went to the Cubs after the Panthers had a handful of unforced errors. Later the Panthers bounced back, taking the fourth set 25-21 and the win over Mayfield.

“I’m very proud of the girls, this was a hard fought win on the road in a hostile environment,” Coach Katrina Damasco reflected.

This week, the Panthers continue on to the second round of league play hosting Providence High School today, September 21. See the Athletic Calendar for full details and directions.
