Poly Language Students Engage With Latin in New Ways

The Upper School at Poly has been discussing the AP curriculum and its continued relevance to our students. Alex Lessie and Katie Schuhl, the Poly Latin teachers, are restructuring the Latin curriculum to include more living Latin, and they have encountered the disconnect between their current pedagogical practices and AP instruction. Katie, who is teaching AP Latin this year, decided to try Latin-to-Latin texts for the AP syllabus. These texts are published by the Paideia Institute, a non-profit organization dedicated to promoting the study of the ancient Mediterranean. Paideia asked Katie to write a short article explaining why she wanted to try the texts.
