The First Games of Fall

Saturday, August 21 marks the first official games of the fall 2021 season. After a year of abbreviated competition, Poly Athletics is thrilled at the opportunity to return to the field to play.

Poly’s Girls Varsity Volleyball team will start the season off by hosting the 31st Annual Invitational Tournament in both Gamble and Scott Gyms. Seven other teams have been invited to participate in the tournament, many returning to the tournament after a year off. These teams are Beverly Hills High School, Paraclete, Phoenix Country Day School, Ramona Convent, Rosemead High School, San Gabriel High School, and San Marino High School. The games start at 8 a.m., and Poly will take on the Matadors of San Gabriel at 8 a.m. in Scott Gym.

Keeping the health and wellness of Poly’s student-athletes and visiting teams a priority, safety guidelines and protocols will be followed including all individuals will be masked throughout the event and each team will be assigned a designated room on campus instead of gathering in the gyms like they have in years past. The Poly Athletics department is making efforts to ensure that all schools and their communities stay safe and healthy.

Across town, Poly’s varsity football team will be facing Savanna High School on the campus of Western High School in Anaheim. With Coach Chris Schmoke and his 11 seniors at the helm, the team hopes to have a successful season starting this weekend. They have been training throughout the summer to return to the field, firing on all cylinders.

Kickoff is at 10:45 a.m. Be sure to check out Poly’s Athletics Calendar for all game details and directions. Or, follow the game on Twitter @PolyAthletics
