PolyToday: Creating visual stories

Working in pairs, students in Ms. Holmgren's English I designed short visual stories using small rubber animals, props, and settings around the Upper School to demonstrate their understanding of conflict development. Without posable limbs or adjustable faces on their characters, students had to think creatively about camera angles, perspective, and the rule of thirds to craft effective visuals. After the photoshoots, they will assemble individual Google Slides presentations and screencast the stories with their own characters as the protagonists and their partners' characters as the antagonists. The project bridges the introduction to literary elements in the summer reading unit and the reading of "Persepolis," a graphic autobiography.
