PolyToday: Throwback Thursday - Outdoor Education, circa 1975

The Upper School remains quiet this week with trips week. Here's an excerpt from a 1973 article, discussing the burgeoning Outdoor Education program.
"With the excellent facilities now existent at Poly, it may seem strange that we are including more and more off-campus experiences for our students..."
"...Perhaps the most lasting reward, both to students and to teachers who accompany them, is exposure to new ways of learning and teaching and growth in interpersonal awareness..."
The article concludes, "For the teachers who accompanied the group, it was an opportunity to communicate with students in a very special way. Sitting on a rock watching leaves float down a stream one is closer to nature and to his fellow inhabitants of the earth. The generation gap closes just a little and that can only be good!"
Participants in 2019 would probably say the same thing.
