Girls volleyball makes comeback to beat undefeated Mayfield

Last Thursday, the girls Varsity volleyball team hosted the Cubs from Mayfield Senior in a big Prep League match. The first time the Panthers faced the Cubs was back on Aug. 28, at Mayfield, where they were swept in three straight sets. The team had been preparing for the rematch since that day. The Panthers came out strong and earned a sizeable lead in the first set. The Cubs chipped away at the lead and took the first set. The Panthers then found themselves down 10 points in the second set 10-20. The Panthers came back and took set two. They continued to press forward and finished in straight sets after dropping the first beating Mayfield 3-1 with very close scores of 23-25, 25-23, 29-27, 25-21. This puts the Panthers tied at first in the Prep League with Mayfield, having dropped one league match apiece to each other. The team is off this week as the Upper School is gone for their Outdoor Education trips. They will return to the court next week, finalizing the regular season with three consecutive league matches. They travel to Chadwick on Thursday, Oct. 4, and Flintridge on Friday, Oct. 5, and they host Providence Monday, Oct. 8, when they honor their two seniors.
