In this course, students will engage in the art of traditional team debate, gaining proficiency in advanced critical and analytic strategies. The focus will encompass persuasive techniques, insights into politics and law, and discussions on current events. Through a combination of lectures and practical exercises, participants will receive training in contemporary policy debate methodologies and theories, centered on recent National Debate Topics. The curriculum will equip students with the essential skills, rules, and strategies required for competitive engagement at the middle or high school level within their respective schools. Students will focus on sharpening their abilities such as organizing compelling arguments, adept research utilization, and mastering the art of refutation and rebuttals. Students will also have the opportunity to explore alternative debating formats such as Lincoln-Douglas debate.
