Poly Cross Country Set School Records at Invitational

Poly’s cross country team participated the night of September 9 in the Rosemead Panthers’ Invitational. With over 2,100 runners, this enormous event is cross country’s equivalent of a Friday Night Lights game. Under the stars, the Poly Panthers shone brightly.

The day started with temperatures soaring, but the Panthers cranked out white-hot, scorching times as night set in and temperatures cooled. The Panther Girls Varsity team recorded their fastest time at Rosemead since 2019 and their sixth-best time in Poly history. Six Poly harriers earned medals, and 11 of Poly’s 12 runners, who had previously raced the Rosemead High School course, set career bests. Five Poly student-athletes clawed into the record book for all-time school race performances. Notable standouts included Catie S. ’26 and Stella K. ’25 who finished in the top 5% and 7%, respectively, out of 833 female runners. “The students are buying into what we are trying to do here, and it’s already paying dividends," Coach Rick Caragher said.

The Panthers open the Prep League competition with their upcoming cluster meet on Tuesday, September 19, at Long Beach’s El Dorado Park. Check out the MyPoly Cross Country page for more info.

Let’s go, Poly!
