Poly football league champs; punches ticket for the post-season

Last week, Poly hosted Prep League rivals the Kares from Rio Hondo Prep in the last game of the regular season. There was a lot riding on this game. The Panthers first celebrated and honored their 16 seniors before the game. Not only was it the last game of the regular season, but perhaps the last game for the seniors and a fight for league title. Both teams entered the game undefeated in league play. The Kares took an early lead in the first quarter, scoring first with a 6-0 lead over the Panthers. Poly answered back in the second, finishing the first half with a slight 7-6 lead. In the third, the Panthers were scoreless, and the Kares jumped ahead with a 13-7 lead. It came down to the last few minutes of the fourth. Poly was down for most of the quarter, but they were not going to give up. With a few minutes left on the clock, the Panthers rallied back and scored a touchdown. They finished the game with a pick-six, defeating the Kares 20-13 and claiming the title of 2017 Prep League champions. This gives them an automatic bid into the CIF-SS Division 10 playoffs.
