Global Initiatives Program examines the impact of poverty during event this evening

Poly's Global Initiatives Program (GIP) invites the Poly community to hear from Kim Saville from The School of St Jude, who will address how an educational program that emphasizes leadership and a commitment to an impressive community service program  is making a difference in this East African nation. The event will be held tonight, Nov. 2, from 6:30 to 9:15 p.m. in the Poly Upper School Library.

This event provides an amazing opportunity to hear and learn directly from the dramatic impact of a school on a region. The School of St. Jude is exemplifying the importance of service in a community crippled by poverty. Thanks to the support of individuals and institutions from around the world, the students of St. Jude's receive a high-quality education, rescuing them from the poverty cycle into which they were born and elevating them to a position where they are able to empower others in their community. Learning the importance of service is a strong ethos imparted to the students that we believe at the school is necessary for the growth and development of Tanzania.

The school, started in 2002, has grown from three students to providing a comprehensive education for almost 2,000 students per year. This non-denominational school is a result of a collaborative project, is fully funded by sponsorships and donations, and is the largest of its kind in Africa.

Questions may be directed to Rick Caragher or Ann Diederich.
