Alec Berg '87 scores Emmy nomination

Alec Berg '87 has been nominated for a 2015 Emmy Award as Outstanding Writer for a Comedy Series for his work on HBO’s Silicon Valley.

This is Berg’s third Emmy nomination for Silicon Valley and eighth overall in his career. His other nominations were earned for production work on hit sitcoms Seinfeld and Curb Your Enthusiasm. Berg is also well known for writing, producing, and co-directing the feature film Eurotrip and worked with Sasha Baron Cohen to create The Dictator.

In a recent interview with screenwriters John August and Craig Mazin, Berg credits his initial interest in the film industry to time spent editing short films with Ted Griffin '89 (screenwriter for Ocean’s Eleven, Matchstick Men) during junior high and high school. Berg was also a self-described “comedy nerd” as a kid, listening to stand-up records instead of music and memorizing Steve Martin routines. Through these interests and hobbies, Berg became “enamored with the entertainment business” while at Poly, but it wasn’t until attending Harvard that he got his first taste of comedy writing, as both a contributor and editor for the Harvard Lampoon.
