Upper School brings awareness to global poverty

In an effort awareness to bring global poverty, 70 Upper School students and faculty members participated in the Live Below the Line campaign organized by the Global Poverty Project. For a week, they pledge to spend not more than $1.50 a day on food and drink to get a glimpse of the lives of the 1.4 billion people who live below the extreme poverty line of $1.50 a day for all of their living expenses. During the week, participants share menu ideas, shop together for filling but inexpensive meals, and encourage one another. While the main goal is to raise awareness, the Poly team also set a goal of raising $375 ($1 for each Upper School student) in support of one of the campaign partners, The Somaly Mam Foundation, which assists girls and young women in Cambodia. They passed that goal by raising $521.
