Poly Fencing Hosts Its First Competition

With the pandemic shutting down the usual fencing venues, Poly’s Fencing team got creative and hosted their own fencing event in Gamble Gym—the first of its kind. Previous competitions were further away so not many fans were able to attend. However, with this event being hosted on the Poly’s home court, many parents were able to watch their student-athletes compete, some for the very first time.

Coach Laelia Nguyen reports, “Freshman Max H. ’25 won the Novice competition, beating the winner of our summer competition, fellow freshman Max I. ’25. In the JV/Varsity event. And Edward L. ’23 won against senior Jacob S. ’22. Every member of the team set a season-long fencing goal and the six fencers, Rebecca M-A ’23, Jacob S. ’22 , Lilah B. ’23, Akira B. ’25, Emily Y. ’25, and Max H. ’25 achieved their goals during this competition, earning the whole team an ice cream day.” Overall, It was a successful event and many personal goals were attained.

Congratulations to Poly’s Fencing Team!

Once they return from their outdoor ed trips, the Poly fencers will look forward to their next event held in Gamble Gym on Sunday, Oct. 3.
