SALC Hosts Freshman Event

On August 24, the Class of 2025 arrived at the Upper School campus for the first time as official high school students at Polytechnic School. To help them ease into this new chapter of their lives, the Student-Athlete Leadership Council (SALC) hosted an event specifically for the freshman class to help introduce them to one another.

Sammie Y. ’23, a member of SALC, said, “SALC's goal for the freshman summer event was to integrate new incoming freshmen into the high school. We intended for them to experience some fun, friendly competition between their prospective classmates. Students were able to participate in some individual games like knockout and ping pong, as well as team games like kickball and dodgeball. We introduced SALC as a student-led group that provides opportunities for student-athletes, and we were able to invite freshmen to join or try out for current sports in the high school. Some of us spoke on the principle of sportsmanship and how it affected who we are and how we compete at Poly.”

Sammie also shared, “I thought this event was an excellent way to introduce the freshmen into high school. Because of the teams, there was a collaborative aspect of the games that led to people getting to know each other and getting to root for each other. As this was the first time hosting a freshman event like this, I was happy to see the healthy competition between all of the teams in every single event, especially the team games. Hopefully, this event is something that SALC can replicate in the future, based on this year's success!”

Welcome to the Upper School, Class of 2025!
