Middle School Student Hosts AAPI Youth Rally

This summer, Sophie P. ’26 hosted a rally in Pasadena to combat the tide of growing anti-Asian and Asian American sentiment. She and her fellow classmate Sofia F. '26 invited prominent members of the community to speak including Pasadena Mayor Victor Gordo, U.S. Congresswoman Judy Chu (D-22), and State Senator Anthony Portantino, as well as members of the Pasadena police department. Sophie shared that her personal fears for her family fueled her activism and was also encouraged by a friend who held a similar rally in the Bay Area. More than 75 people attended the event including a friend of Sophie’s brother, a first-grader, who pledged to combat Asian hate.
