Safer Crossings for Walking and Biking

During neighborhood meetings last spring, Poly families interested in biking and walking to school shared concerns about safety at two crossings: Lake at Cornell Road and Wilson at California Boulevard. In response, Poly worked closely with neighbors and staff to identify solutions and is piloting crossing assistance at both intersections this fall.

The pilot program supports the school’s ongoing commitment to sustainability and safety. By making walking and biking safer, Poly hopes to encourage more students to choose these environmentally friendly and active ways of getting to campus.

“The crossing assistance at the Lake/Cornell crosswalk is huge! Poly’s Security Guard Kevin Jones greets my kids and makes sure they cross safely. Now I feel more confident that they will be able to walk without me when they may need to in the future. Thank you, Poly,” shared T Jaffer ’92 P ’32.

Crossing assistance staff are on duty during morning drop-off , helping families feel more secure and reducing morning traffic congestion around campus.

If your family lives within a one to two mile radius of Poly, we encourage you to walk or bike and take advantage of these safer crossings. Thank you to the entire community for supporting the Single Drop-Off Initiative as well. We look forward to seeing you on the way to school!
