Poly's fall athletes didn't wait for the first day of school to get to work. The season officially opened July 27, and with CIF-SS rolling out a new schedule this year, girls volleyball got an especially early start. The team opened play August 12 and racked up 10 matches before classes even began. The highlight came at Poly's own preseason tournament, where the Panthers beat South Pasadena High School in the championship to reclaim the trophy for the first time in three years.
The dance team also got off to a strong start under new leadership, hosting a USA Song/Pom Home Camp in early August. Meanwhile, cross country, football, girls tennis, fencing, and boys water polo have all been putting in the work through their own preseason preparations.
The buzz, though, belongs to girls’ flag football—CIF's newest sanctioned sport and the newest addition to Poly's fall lineup. Varsity flag football made its debut on the first day of school against Northview High School, with the Panthers showing plenty of promise on the field.
With the school year now underway, Poly Athletics is already hitting its stride.
