PolyToday: Latinx/e and Hispanic Heritage Celebration in the Upper School
The Upper School came together for a vibrant celebration of Latinx/e and Hispanic Heritage, hosted by Latines Unides. Guided by faculty advisor Alex Jimenez and student leaders Allison N. ’26, Alejandro K.-R. ’26, and Danny L. ’26, the event wove together storytelling, music, and food to honor the strength and beauty of Latine culture. Students listened intently as members of Latines Unides shared reflections on current events as well as personal and family stories: moments of resilience, hope, and pride, and reflected on the ways these stories connect to the present. The assembly’s highlight was a heartfelt performance of “México Lindo y Querido” by Anastasia A. ’26, accompanied by her father. The celebration continued in McWilliams Courtyard and on the sophomore patio, where a student band played as the Upper School community sampled culturally significant foods from across Latin America, including Mexico, the Dominican Republic, Cuba, Argentina, El Salvador, Guatemala, and Panama.
