The Wild Robot is an animated movie based on the children’s book series by Peter Brown. It tells the story of a service robot named Roz who becomes stranded on a remote and uninhabited island after a shipwreck. At first, Roz struggles to survive in the unfamiliar wilderness, where the only inhabitants, the animals, believe she is a threat. However, as she learns to communicate and adapt, she gradually builds bonds with the island's wildlife, discovering empathy, connection, and what it means to truly belong despite strict programming. The film explores themes of found family, environmental stewardship, and the relationship between technology and nature.

The Terrapalooza committee chose this film for its strong connection to environmental issues and its message about how humans can develop a healthier relationship with our planet. As climate change continues to worsen, we believe that it is increasingly important to watch this film. It highlights key topics within sustainability, such as human impact, adaptation, and environmental responsibility. Ultimately, the film serves as a timely reminder that caring for the environment is both a shared responsibility and a necessity.

Back to the Big Screen, a monthly screening series, provides the opportunity for the greater Poly community to experience a selection of cinematic titles in a big screen format in our very own Garland Theater over the course of the academic year. This chance to revisit titles that we may have never seen on the big screen will encompass the screening of a select film of relevance followed by moderated discussion among those in attendance at each evening event.
