PolyToday: When World Read Aloud Day Became a Week
World Read Aloud Day is a global celebration created by the nonprofit LitWorld and sponsored by Scholastic. Celebrated annually in more than 173 countries, it highlights the connection that grows when people read aloud together.
At Poly, second-grade teachers quickly realized that one day was not enough. They expanded the celebration into a full week, and the students in the Class of 2036 were the lucky recipients.
Throughout the week, more than a dozen books were read by guest readers from across campus. Lower School faculty and staff, administrators, the Lower School Director, and several Middle and Upper School faculty members all spent time in second-grade classrooms.
The book selections were just as engaging as the readers. Favorites included Where the Wild Things Are, The Three Little Javelinas, I Used to Be a Fish, Rumple Buttercup, The Icky Bug, The Spider Weaver, The Curious Garden, and 7 Ate 9. A joyful week centered on stories, imagination, and the simple pleasure of listening to stories read aloud.
