Winter fencing kicks off their season

The Poly fencing team kicked off its winter season last Saturday by competing in the USFA open foil tournament at UC Riverside. This tournament was a mixed event, with  the boys and girls competing against each other. They came away from the tournament with promising results. having three athletes finish in the top 12 of a very competitive field. The team is young consisting mostly of freshmen and sophomores. Freshman Jack Deschenes made it to the round of 16. It was an impressive finish for an athlete with only five months of training in this sport. Having such young talent finish with strong results in this competition shows that this program has a promising future.
