Special Norita Screening and Panel Discussion at Polytechnic School

Back to the Big Screen, PolyGlobal, and Poly's World Language Department are pleased to announce that Producer Sarah Schoellkopf ’92 will return to Poly in order to screen her film, Norita (trailer). 

The personal tragedy suffered by Nora Cortiñas, a former suburban housewife with no prior political experience, fuels her unwavering determination and intrepid activism during Argentina’s 1970s dictatorship, when the military regime kidnaps and “disappears” her activist son Gustavo and thousands more. She co-founds the globally renowned Mothers of Plaza de Mayo resistance movement in 1977 before emerging on the country’s political scene, time and time again over four decades, as a stalwart of human rights. This film will enrich, inform, and inspire you. After the screening there will be an insightful discussion with a star-studded panel, which will feature key members of the cast and crew.

Now entering its fifth year, Back to the Big Screen commences a year-long partnership with PolyGlobal for an expansive series of cinematic programming as a complement to the long-running speaker series hosted by Global Scholars and a broader mission of bringing global topics and issues of relevance to the Poly campus and community. The 2026-2027 Global Cinema series will highlight examples of films beyond the Hollywood bubble, acknowledging the diversity of cultures, peoples, and narratives represented on the big screen to further stimulate discussions of belonging at a global scale.

Back to the Big Screen, a monthly screening series, provides the opportunity for the greater Poly community to experience a selection of cinematic titles in a big screen format in our very own Garland Theater over the course of the academic year. This chance to revisit titles that we may have never seen on the big screen will encompass the screening of a select film of relevance followed by moderated discussion among those in attendance at each evening event.
