PolyToday: Stories Behind the Stories

Students in the Lower and Upper Schools heard from visiting authors this week.
The Lower School welcomed Arlene Abundis, an award-winning Cuban American author (and aunt of a Poly kindergarten student) whose work honors resilience through mental and emotional health. Her book Into the Mighty Sea tells the story of a girl with big emotions who learns that sometimes taking a step back can be exactly what you need.
Upper School students met novelist Madeline Miller via Zoom. Miller is the author of the acclaimed novels The Song of Achilles and Circe, which reimagine stories from Greek mythology.
Both authors spoke about following a passion for writing and the patience the process requires. Students also heard how many years it can take to develop and publish a book.
