When: Friday, December 5, 2025, 6-8 p.m. Where: Garland Theater Who: All Are Welcome! Brought to you by the 11th Grade Class Cabinet
Join the 11th Grade Class Cabinet at Back to the Big Screen with a screening of the 1989 film Dead Poets Society. (trailer) Dead Poets Society is a 1989 film that follows a newly arrived, unconventional English teacher, Mr. Keating (Robin Williams), at an all-boys prep school in 1959 who inspires his students to think for themselves and “seize the day” through poetry. Inspired by his transformative teaching, students revive a secret poetry club that becomes a space for them to explore their identities and question the strict expectations placed upon them. Screening this film today invites reflection on how modern education still deals with pressure, perfectionism, and the fear of disappointing authority figures.
Back to the Big Screen, a monthly screening series, provides the opportunity for the greater Poly community to experience a selection of cinematic titles in a big screen format in our very own Garland Theater over the course of the academic year. This chance to revisit titles that we may have never seen on the big screen will encompass the screening of a select film of relevance followed by moderated discussion among those in attendance at each evening event.
