Poly’s cross country team participated in the Rosemead Invite on Friday night, and it proved to be a great evening for the Panthers. They finished the evening with nine new PRs on the Rosemead course; six set by girls, three set by boys. The girls frosh team finished sixth as a team, and the girls soph team finished fifth as a team. Eight Poly student-athletes earned medals.
Top 10 performances (reported by coach Rick Caragher): Senior S. Naimi led the girls to their third fastest team time in school history on the Rosemead course. E. Hayes cracked Poly's 10 fastest times on the Rosemead course. He PRed by a 1:16. A. Checcone (fifth) and O. Schleifer (fouth) PRed by 4:59 minutes and 1:12 respectively. S. Phinney won the junior race in 17:49 (the fastest girl's time of the evening). She came from behind to win in the last mile; she was 25 meters behind with .75 mile left in the race and steadily reeled in the #1 runner who had made what appeared to be a definitive move at the two-mile mark. Sophie PRed by 1:58. She was named female athlete of the meet, recording the fastest girl's time of the evening. She now holds the school record on that course.
