Reluctant Readers 5-8 is a class designed to help students who need to find joy in reading. As students enter Upper elementary and Middle school, the need to read more complex books at a faster pace becomes important. In this class, we will talk about how to find joy in reading books when you don’t always get to choose what you read. We will work on separating reading for school from reading for pleasure. We will work on strengthening student reading pace and notetaking. We will talk about the differences in reading at the Middle school level, and we will have regular discussions about the “Myth of good reader.”

Lastly, I will work with students to understand how they read and making reading an everyday part of their lives, not a chore or punishment. Students will practice reading in every class, and there will be an expectation that students are reading outside of class.

This class will have a materials fee.
