7th Annual Dig Pink Game
Tuesday, October 7, 2025
The Poly girls volleyball teams will host its seventh annual Dig Pink Game to raise awareness and support the Side-Out Foundation, which focuses on Stage Four metastatic breast cancer research. What began as a varsity team highlight event has now expanded to include the entire program—frosh/soph, JV, and varsity teams—all united for the cause.
The Dig Pink Game, played this year against Chadwick, is a meaningful event for the team. Beyond the competition, the evening carries a powerful message of hope.
“Breast cancer has run its course through my family, so it’s something that’s very close to my heart,” said Associate Athletics Director and Head Girls Volleyball Coach Katrina Damasco-Dicipulo ’02, P ’25.
The Dig Pink event represents an even deeper significance for the program. “We had a player last year whose mom was dealing with breast cancer—she was actually going through chemo during the season. The whole team got shirts that had a pink ribbon on the back with the last name of the mom. And she’s fine now—she’s recovered, everything is great—but to have that so close to us last year was really special to support her,” Coach Damasco-Dicipulo shared.
The visual impact, the wall of pink in the stands and on the players, adds to the spirit of the event. The gym is filled with supporters and players outfitted in custom pink jerseys. “It’s really just the environment that’s so special,” she explained. “Everybody’s in pink, we have pink ribbons, and the girls make posters in support of it. This is a big game for us, and it’s also a fun game for us.”
By blending competitive spirit with community care, the Dig Pink Game is both a highlight of the volleyball season and a powerful tradition that continues to spread awareness, especially among younger students. Through the passion of its players, coaches, and supporters, Poly girls volleyball is making an impact beyond the court.
