After the horrific Nazi Holocaust, many humans worldwide proclaimed, “Never Again!” Yet today, the Uyghurs in central Asia are subjected to, what the US government proclaimed in 2021, ‘...is a genocide!’ Rushan Abbas, a world-renowned Uyghur activist, and Bill Clark ’75, a longtime resident of Xinjiang/East Turkestan, will address the plight of today's Uyghurs, share their personal experiences, and help us to understand how we can make a difference.

Earlier this year Abbas published Unbroken: One Uyghur’s Fight for Freedom. One reviewer wrote, “Student, translator, sister, relentless advocate: perhaps as much as any single person, Rushan Abbas brought the plight of the Uyghur ethnicity into the American consciousness. This fascinating account of her journey shows that even in an age of autocrats, a single fearless voice can speak truth—and bring shame—to power.”

As we hear about a great moral calamity of our day, please join us for this special opportunity to hear from a global leader and one of Pasadena’s own; Abbas and Clark have demonstrated the courage to stand up, speak out, and have devoted their lives to the preservation of the Uyghur ethnic group and culture.
