Cultural cooking

Students going on this summer's GIP trip to Argentina were suprised today by their chaperones with a cooking lesson. They learned how to make chocotorta, a traditional Argentinian dessert. After much research and canvassing Los Angeles, trip leader and Upper School World Languages teacher Patricia Levin was able to locate the original Chocolinas, the cookies that are the main and irreplaceable ingredient of this delicious treat. Dulce de leche, sour cream, and coffee completed the list of ingredients — and were much easier to find! Wearing aprons and chef hats and using the proper utensils, students worked together to "build" the ovenless cake during activity period. After letting it set for about an hour, they enjoyed the fruits of their labor.
