Chemistry can feel like magic. After a year of learning the fundamentals and building their lab skills, sophomores shared that sense of wonder with kindergarteners through a series of live demonstrations. Safety and proper lab protocols were a key part of every presentation. Students highlighted the importance of protective gear, careful procedures, and even what counts as a “closed-toe shoe,” showing that responsible science comes first. They chose their own experiments, including the “exploding gummy bear” (in the fume hood), a solution that shifted from yellow to blue and back again, and other colorful and exciting reactions.
