Computer Class For Adults Offered January-February, 2026

Parents, faculty, and staff in the Poly community are invited to participate in an evening course, Introduction to Computer Science and Programming for Adults. Classes will meet Tuesday evenings, 6:30-8:30 p.m., from January 20 to February 10, 2026, in the Poly Building on the South Campus.

From Google to Instagram, from Silicon Valley to China, from your laptop to your smartphone, computers have an enormous influence on the way we live. In this course taught by Upper School Computer Science Department Chair Richard White, participants will explore how computers and computer programs work, and discuss the ever-changing intersection between technology and culture.

A key component of the course is an introduction to writing computer programs using the Python language. Participants should bring a PC or Mac laptop for programming activities (or inform the instructor in advance to make arrangements to borrow a computer during class). Because the material in this course is developed sequentially, a commitment to all four sessions of the course is encouraged.

Classes will meet Tuesdays—January 20, January 27, February 3, and February 10—from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. in room 110 on the first floor of the Poly Building on the South Campus. Class size is limited. Please contact Richard White (rwhite@polytechnic.org) for further information and to reserve your place in the course. No prior knowledge or experience with computer science or programming is required! A $20 fee covers the cost of course materials and light refreshments.
