Poly Celebrates Hispanic and Latinx/e Heritage Month

September 15 through October 15, 2023

Poly is proud to acknowledge and celebrate the start of Hispanic and Latinx/e Heritage Month! The federal government established “Hispanic Heritage Month” in 1968 in order to formally recognize the histories, cultures, and contributions of Hispanic and Latina/o/x/e Americans. The beginning of the month, September 15th, coincides with Fiestas Patrias, the independence celebrations of several countries from Spain which include Costa Rica, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras, and Nicaragua (9/15), México (9/16) and Chile (9/18).

Throughout this month-long recognition that lasts until October 15, our Lower, Middle, and Upper school students will be engaged in a variety of curricular and co-curricular activities that highlight understanding and appreciating how Hispanic and Latinx/e communities are woven into the fabric of our country, state, and school. These include assemblies in each division; lessons and activities during Community Meeting, Panther Pod, and FLEx times; displays in each of our Libraries; community engagement opportunities; and various classroom units. Continue to check out your division’s newsletters for updates!
