Poly Boys Varsity Soccer earned a scoreless draw on Wednesday afternoon on Babcock Field and an automatic spot in the CIF Playoffs in Division 6. Poly created several excellent chances in front of the goal in both halves, but the final result of 0-0 was enough to earn a spot in the CIF Playoff field for the first time in four seasons. Poly demonstrated great resolve and determination in overcoming a late red card and some chippy play from the visitors. Poly will learn their playoff opponent on Saturday at 11 am when the Division 6 draw is announced. Poly will play on Thursday, February 7 at a site to be determined in the first round.
Poly Boys Varsity Soccer had a workman-like performance in dispatching Providence 4-1 on Friday afternoon. Poly started slowly but managed to build a 3-0 lead by halftime. Another goal early in the second half all but sealed the victory despite a late goal by Providence. Poly will host Chadwick on Senior Day next Wednesday at 3:30 pm with second place the Prep League and an automatic playoff berth at stake.
Poly Varsity Boys Soccer battled Flintridge Prep to a 0-0 half time score despite creating numerous quality scoring chances. The second half saw Poly flash the ball across the Prep goal time and time again, but two goals against the run of play allowed Flintridge Prep to walk away with a 2-0 victory. The Poly boys are back in action Friday in a must win game against Providence at Occidental College at 3:45 pm.
Poly Varsity Boys Soccer battled the number two ranked Chadwick Dolphins on a sunny Saturday afternoon in Palos Verdes and came away with a hard fought 1-0 victory that creates a three way race for Prep League title. Poly created numerous strong scoring chances throughout the game, only to be denied by excellent goalkeeping by Chadwick's goaltender. Constant pressure paid off when Poly got their one elusive goal fifteen minutes into the second half and held on for the well-earned victory. Poly has another Prep League clash against Flintridge Prep away on Wednesday at 5 pm.
Poly Varsity Boys Soccer overcame a small field and a constant downpour to defeat Providence 5-1 at Glendale Sports Complex on Tuesday afternoon. Poly opened the scoring early and never looked back, scoring three in the first half before adding two in the second to cruise to victory. Poly resumes Prep League play at Chadwick on Saturday at 1 pm.
When a Poly goal was scored in the first minute only to be incorrectly disallowed, it was obviously going to be a long day. Despite the early setback, Poly fought back two times from a single goal down to even the score. At times Poly had great possession and seemed to create the more dangerous chances, but a Flintridge Prep goal with fifteen minutes remaining ended up being the deciding margin. Poly returns to action on Tuesday against Providence at Glendale Sports Complex.
Poly Boys Soccer bounced back in a big way by defeating Arrowhead Christian by a score of 8-0 on the second day of the Ontario Christian Tournament. Goals by seven different players led the way to an easy day for the boys. Poly will look to get a second win of the tournament later today against San Dimas.
Poly Boys Soccer started their winter tournament slowly, falling behind 3-0 before mounting a late comeback. Unfortunately, it was too little too late and Poly fell to Grace Brethren by a score of 5-3. Poly will look to bounce back against Arrowhead Christian tomorrow.
Two goals over the span of the first five minutes let the crowd know this would be a high scoring contest between San Dimas and Pasadena Poly. Poly fell behind but quick equalized before pushing ahead 3-2 at halftime. A resilient effort and another late goal helped push Poly to a 4-3 victory over a determined San Dimas squad with a large bench against Poly with a bench of two players. Poly will play for the consolation championship tomorrow against Charter Oak.
After a week layoff due to Christmas Vacation, the Poly Boys Varsity Soccer team fought Oakwood to a 1-1 draw on Friday at Poly. Despite numerous chances and the vast majority of the possession, Poly was only able to score a solitary goal which Oakwood matched early into the second half. A late chance by Poly struck the post, but was cleared harmlessly by Oakwood in the final five minutes to claim the draw. Poly opens Prep League play next Friday at home against rival Flintridge Prep at 3:15 pm on Babcock Field.
After scoring twenty seconds into the game, Poly's Boys Varsity Soccer Team went on to score two more second half goals to earn a 3-1 victory over Windward. The physical game turned in the second half when Windward lost its composure with two successive yellow cards and numerous fouls in their own half. One of those fouls eventually led to a Poly counter-attack which resulted in a goal by Sinjin Mendenhall. Another late goal by Stewart Sessions sealed the victory as Poly improved to 5-3 on the season.
The Poly Boys Varsity Soccer Team scored two second half goals to beat a fiesty Alhambra team at Moor Field. After a tough fought scoreless first half that saw few scoring chances for either team, Poly scored their first goal ten minutes into the second half with a great switch ball through the midfield. Another goal ten minutes later from forty yards out doubled the lead and Poly locked down Alhambra throughout the second half to finish half. Poly is back in action Saturday morning at 11 am at Windward before going on Christmas break.
The Boys Varsity Soccer team triumphed over Mary Star on Friday after on Babcock Field by a score of 4-2. With a goal a mere 18 seconds into the game, Poly was off and running. A goal by Renzo Soatto mid-way through the first half doubled the lead and Poly looked firmly in control. Yet Mary Star fought back with two quck strike goals to make it level at 2-2 at the half. Poly reestablished their possession and creted numerous dangerous opportunities in the second half before capitalizing on two more goals. The final margin of 4-2 was well earned and was a complete team effort. Poly is back in action next Thursday away at Alhambra High School at 3:15.
Poly's Boys Varsity Soccer Team lost a tough game at San Marino by a score of 2-1 on Tuesday night. Despite controlling nearly 75 percent of the possession and outshooting San Marino by a 14-3 margin, Poly came up short when San Marino scored halfway through the second half. The boys team has another opportunity to bounce back on Friday when they take on Mary Star at home at 3:15.
Poly Boys Varsity Soccer dropped yesterday's rain soaked game at South Pasadena by a score of 3-0. Poly conceded an early goal off a missed clearance and sealed their fate with a late goal off a set piece right before the end of the first half. South Pasadena added a third goal halfway through the second half in a game delayed thirty minutes due to lightning. Poly is back in action next week against San Marino and CMI.
After struggling to finish their chances in the first half, Poly Boys Varsity Soccer exploded for four second half goals to defeat Mark Keppel High School by a score of 5-0. Five different players had a goal and five additional players contributed with an assist. Dylan Baird posted his second shutout of the season as the boys kept possesion for the majority of the game. Next up is South Pasadena High School away on Thursday at 5 pm.
The Poly Boys Varsity Soccer team evened their record to 1-1 with a convincing 4-0 defeat of Cantwell Sacred Heart on Monday evening. The game was a one sided affair with Poly outshooting Cantwell by a 20-1 margin. Steller play by Cantwell's goalkeeper kept the Cardinal in the game, but Poly put the game away with two second half goals to go along with two first half goals. Poly plays again after Thanksgiving break at Mark Keppel High School on Wednesday, November 30.
The Pasadena Poly Boys Soccer dropped a 1-0 away contest at Maranatha on Thursday night 1-0. Maranatha scored halfway through the first half and made it stand up, despite Poly controlling possession throughout the game and creating numerous scoring opportunities. The Poly Boys are back in action on Monday at Cantwell Sacred Heart of Mary.
