    Did you know that you can make a compass using a paperclip and a magnet? Or open a tin can without a can opener? Do you like searching for treasure? All Hands on Deck! is a class that steps outside the pervasive technological landscape to help young learners hone critical thinking and survival skills. Each day, students will be faced with a new task in which they will have nothing but their own knowledge, newly acquired skills, and group collaboration efforts to help reach an end goal. Along the way they will develop self-confidence, independence, cooperation, and an increased awareness of their surroundings while learning how to engage with the world in new, exciting and practical ways. Among other activities, students will be building, braiding, fixing, foraging, navigating, and orienteering all while learning practical and gratifying new skills to navigate life’s twists and turns more thoughtfully, gracefully and thoroughly.

    Students will explore the globe through a combination of regional and cultural specific literature and tactile activities. Each unit will focus on a holiday or festival celebrated throughout the world. After an introduction of the region and event, we will being with reading corresponding cultural stories. Examples of these explorations might include Diwali, Santa Lucia, Children's Day, the Chinese New Year, etc. Students will explore these festivals by comparing and contrasting with other cultural celebrations and completing a related hands-on-activity.

    This class will allow students to explore different genres such as creative fiction, non-fiction, poetry and personal narrative. By examining different author's, students will be able to learn how to create their own stories. Writing projects will also accompanied with creative representation of their word through clay models, portraits, -and guided drawings. Students will also be introduced to the role of characters in stories, dialogue, voice, and style of different genres. This course provides a creative way for students to delve into the wonderful world of literature.

    Learn the foundations of mindfulness in a playful way. Students will have the opportunity to learn various mindfulness activities that they can incorporate into their daily lives. We will create our own calming kits too!

    If you designed the perfect city, what would it look like? Would it be filled with toy stores, sports stadiums, and playgrounds? What would you need to make it a wonderful place to live? Constructing buildings from boxes and found objects, students in this course will brainstorm what the perfect city needs then decide how the city should be designed. As they build, students will make decisions on land use, facilities and design.

In this course we will be learning about our vital organs and how our body systems (digestive, circulatory, nervous, respiratory, muscular, urinary, endocrine, and skeletal systems) work together to form you. We will explore these systems through various media activities, and focus on introducing and mastering skills such as research, collaboration and presentation skills. In addition we will discuss how to take care of our body systems so they remain healthy and allow us to do all the things we love to do.

    In this two block hands-on cooking class we will learn essential cooking skills like chopping, sauteeing, and simmering along with organizational skills, teamwork and math skills. We will use seasonal ingredients and explore the importance of keeping a low carbon footprint by eating healthy and sustainable foods. Each class will also have a culinary related art project like plate decorating, apron designing and cookbook creating.

    Basketball Camp is specifically designed for all players who want to have fun and improve their skills in basketball. We will have daily contests and games. All activities will take place in the gym. Camp will stress basic individual offensive skills and all campers will be taught the proper way to shoot a basketball. Camp will include instruction in passing, ball handling, and scoring moves. We will play full court games every day.

    Design thinking is a process for creative problem solving, centered on empathy and entrepreneurial thinking. There are five basic steps: observation/empathy, defining the problem, ideation, prototyping/building, testing. We will start off week 1 drawing with chalk pastels, week 2 exploring with paints and ending week 3 with a clay project.     Copper enameling (melting glass on metal) is a fun class in which students will make small projects of amazing beauty out of sparkling colors of glass. Students will create small projects of animals and pendants for wearable art. Small plates will become the format for designing cloisonné animals, landscapes, or whatever their imagination can conjure.

    The Exploring Science through Experiments course is intended to provide young kids the opportunity to perform experiments through which they learn basic science principles. Just to name a few, experiments they will conduct in this age group includes ice cream making, density layered columns in eppendorf tubes, use of basic medical instruments (stethoscope, reflex hammer, tuning fork) to understand how the human body works, and learning the principles of conservation using Newton's cradle. The second session of this course will cover different material, so the second session is not a repeat of the first.

    This course will provide opportunities to introduce the Spanish culture through a variety of activities and materials while exploring different cultures and learning more about Spanish speaking countries. A program designed specifically for this age group will be used along with supporting hands-on activities such as crafts, cooking, games, songs, and storytelling. Three to five Spanish Speaking countries will be explored through arts, music, geography, history, dancing, food, and craft making.

  • Exploring the Magic of Paint! 1-5

    This class is for those students who love to explore various ways to use paint! Each week, students will create a project that tests out the effects of paint mixed with different mediums and elements to create stunning visual effects in the art world.     Students will be introduced to many facets of the game on an introductory to intermediate level. Students will start each day with a brief warm up and a motivational talk from the coach. Students will then work on individual skill development at both an offensive and defensive position. While the course will NOT be a full contact course, players will learn skills which can be translated into tackle football. The last part of practice will include 7 on 7 games, skill competitions and combine tests. The main goal of the course is to have fun and teach skills in a safe and supervised environment.

    Get ready to dive into the world of American Girl Dolls! In this class students will come with their doll for a fun filled hour of crafts and more. Students will have the chance to share their dolls with the peers and learn about all of the different dolls from different times and places. In addition, students will complete crafts for themselves and their dolls. Each week will have a different theme in which the projects will be centered around. Themes include tea party, sleep over, and luau! It is not necessary for students to have an American Girl doll; all dolls and stuffed animals are welcomed!

    In this course students will play fun games and complete challenging puzzles through the use of cublets and legos. Cubelets are magnetic blocks that can be snapped together to make an endless variety of robots with no programming and no wires. This course will that valuable critical reasoning, beginnng programming and mathematical thinking skills. Students have so much fun they don’t even realize they’re learning!

    “Left, left, left, right, left. We're the best, we're number one. Now let’s have some math fun!” Fun with Math Games focuses on engaging rising first and second graders in specific strategies to build on and further strengthen math fact skills in all four math operations. This course is designed to encourage students to practice and reinforce math facts through a variety of math activities that involve iPad apps, computer games, cards, dice, board games, and flashcards to further their mastery of basic facts. The extra practice is critical to each student’s math success and developing the automaticity of facts. Some games will include Double Trouble, Half as Much, Baseball Math, Defensive Struggle, Number Maker, Knock-Off Numbers, Pyramid Math, Dollar Race, Murb, Crazy Cone and many more.

    Handwriting structures thought and creativity in a way keyboard and tablet typing can't.The movement of the hand stimulates the muscles involved in writing as well as the process of thinking. The successive construction of letters and words is more fluid and allows children to remember words and bridge ideas. In this class, we will review the basics of Print writing and explore some fundamental cursive. The goal is to build confidence while improving each student's hand-eye coordination, hand muscle building and, most importantly, allow them to construct words, phrases and sentences with beautiful penmanship while learning to love their own writing.

    What better way to end your summer day than to "Just Dance!" In this dance class, we will incorporate styles of dance including Hip Hop, Jazz, Ballet, and Broadway dance. Dancers will be taken through the elements of dance, gaining a better understanding of movement, rhythm, body isolations, and vocabulary while learning various dance combinations. This dance class is all about having fun, being creative, and exploring different styles along the way.

    Typing is a basic skill that needs time and practice to develop. Young kids have a great capacity to learn. When they start learning the position of characters on the keyboard at an early age, they have a much better chance of building up high-accuracy for the future. In this entry level class, students play fun keyboarding games as they become familiar with the keyboard!

    Inspiring ordinary children to do extraordinary things is what this class is all about. Not every child will be an entrepreneur when he or she grows up, but through this course we can inspire every child to have an entrepreneurial spirit.

    Have you ever thought about creating your own business in a real-world environment? Ever wished you knew the wonders of how to create products that will make others happy? Developing a business, earning cash, saving, and donating to worthy causes are key components to our Financial Literacy class. The Financial Literacy class will be filled with an abundance of activities that will take you on a journey to be remembered!! Each child will work on a team and create a business that they can develop and share with others. In this course, students will get into small groups, according to the businesses of interest, come up with a plan of what they would like to sell and create a budget. They will fill out an application, elect Vice Presidents (of marketing, finance, publicity), and elect their CEO. In addition, students will also work with a Graphic Designer and create their own company logo. Some of the companies they could develop might be a Beverage Bar, Bakery Business, T-Shirt Company, and other creative possibilities. Join us for a session of fun and adventure.

    Educational Benefits and Objectives ~ The skills students can develop through this course is to lead with confidence, use good critical thinking skills, understand and value teamwork, and to become financially responsible. Each company will work with a banker from Wells Fargo and also local business owners to assist with business plans and strategies on how to run a successful business.

    From French to German to Dutch to Japanese, students will learn at their own pace. They will choose any language they have an interest to explore each every week. They will practice their listening and pronunciation skills as well as their spelling and writing skills.     Math Busters to the rescue!! Amuse yourself through the number one roller coaster ride of math!! If your journey in math has been too fast, slow, up and down, or new this is the ride for you. A Strong math foundation is the key to grasping higher-level math concepts. This course is designed to help develop mathematical strengths as it introduces numbers and enforces instant recall of math facts. Through the journey of this course, students will gain an understanding of the addition and subtraction families, gain an understanding of multiplication as repeated addition and identify division facts and its relationship to multiplication.     Shorely you will want to dive into learning about life under the sea! From dolphins and sharks to seahorses and sea turtles (and otters and octopuses, oh my!), we will fish for knowledge while discovering the wonders of ocean life. From under the sea, we will adventure ashore to explore tide pool creatures such as anemones, urchins and sea stars. Awareness of habitats, environmentally safe practices and endangered ocean species will be discovered along the way. And since we can't explore the ocean, the ocean will come to us in tanks and touch trays for a hands-on culmination of our oceanography adventure. Subject to availability.
    But beware, matey and scallywag, o’ scurvy Pirate Fridays, as treasure hunts abound and pirate tales and booty provide swashbuckling fun. Who knows wha’ may ensue when the’ Jolly Roger be a’ flyin’! Savvy?
