The Block Program: time to explore
Once a week, students in the Middle School participate in one-and-a-half- to two-hour Block classes and activities, which provide them with opportunities to engage in enriching endeavors that do not fit easily into standard 45- to 50-minute time slots. These longer periods provide occasions for meaningful community outreach projects, courses that tap into the varied talents of Poly’s faculty, and activities that allow students to take pause in the midst of the busy school week. During Block, students can take risks, sample new activities and fields of study, engage in challenging projects, and go beyond the confines of the traditional curriculum. Classes include hiking/outdoor education, introduction to debate, on- and off-campus community service, cooking, rocket-building, robotics, Science Olympiad, Math Counts, newspaper, yearbook, and many more.
