SAFE Heart returns to campus next week

SAFE (Student Athletic Fitness Evaluation) is a nonprofit organization specializing in screening for early detection of heart disease and dedicated to raising awareness about Sudden Cardiac Arrest (SCA). Due to the favorable response to last year’s event, Poly and other Prep League schools have invited SAFE back to offer another opportunity for students in grades 8-12 to participate. This cardiac screening program is entirely voluntary and is not required to participate in Poly athletics. It is also important to note that the SAFEheart testing protocol is more extensive than the current guidelines recommended by the American Heart Association. SAFE uses both ECG and echocardiogram studies to detect these previously undiagnosed conditions. These tests will be performed on Poly’s campus and take approximately 30 minutes to complete.

Appointments are offered on Wednesday, Oct. 18, from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. and Saturday, Oct. 21, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. and can be scheduled online at SAFEheartscreening.com (click on “Schedule” and select “Heart Screening at Polytechnic School”). Be sure to print and complete the health history questionnaire found at the bottom of the scheduling page. The requested donation to SAFE for each screening is $80. Questions may be directed to Director of Health Services Marcy Kwitny at 626-396-6391.
