Poly music takes the stage this month

By Alan Geier, Middle and Upper School Performing Arts

December is always the most musical of months, and here at Poly, we are no exception!
The musical month kicked off with the combined Lower School Choristers and Middle School Cantatori performing at and bringing holiday cheer to a local retirement center (Del Mar Park) on Dec. 1.

Following the exquisite Dance Recital ("We are One") this past weekend comes a scintillating series of seasonal feasts for the ear:
  • Middle School Winter Concert featuring the Band, Orchestra, Jazz Band, and Cantatori — Wednesday, Dec. 7, 7 p.m., Garland Theatre
  • Upper School instrumentalists and singers take center stage, presenting their Winter Concert; seasonal favorites will alternate with classics by Mozart, Mendelssohn, Vaughan-Williams and others, as we are serenaded by the Orchestra, the Chamber Music class, and the Vocal Ensemble — Monday, Dec. 12, at 7 p.m., Garland Theatre
  • Lower School Sing, when the entire Lower School unites with voices and instruments to provide entertainment and holiday cheer — Thursday, Dec. 15, 6:30 p.m., Boys Gym
The Poly community is invited to attend these performances free of charge.

Finally, before we break to enjoy much-needed rest, downtime, and family gatherings, the Upper School PASC (Poly Arts Student Council) presents a 5th Quarter Showcase of student talent in both the performing and the visual arts  following the basketball game on Friday, Dec. 16, at 8 p.m. throughout Garland.
