Poly Lower School Students Make Kindness Kits for the Homeless

This Spring, Poly students took their lessons in kindness and put them to action! Students, family, and faculty came together to assemble 200 hygiene kits and generously donated them to the residents at Tiny Homes Arroyo Seco. The event organized by the LSPO Service Learning Committee was held in Founders Hall on March 16, 2023, and aimed to provide support and essential necessities to those struggling with homelessness in our local community.

Tiny Home Villages is a local initiative designed to offer affordable housing solutions and provide a safe haven for those experiencing homelessness. Understanding the importance of maintaining personal hygiene and how it can positively impact self-esteem and overall well-being, the Poly community took on the effort of assembling Kindness Kits which contained essential items including toothbrushes, toothpaste, soap, shampoo, deodorant, mouthwash, a comb, and other hygiene necessities.

The students also added handwritten notes of encouragement in each one, which would surely bring a smile to someone's face! With over a hundred students, faculty, and parent volunteers, this event was a testament to the positive change our community can make when we come together for a common cause. The students' initiative not only addressed the immediate needs of the Tiny Homes residents but also fostered a spirit of empathy, kindness, and social responsibility.

The impact of this act of generosity is far-reaching, spreading beyond the walls of Tiny Homes Arroyo Seco. It serves as an inspiration for others to recognize the challenges faced by those experiencing homelessness and to take action to support them. Reflecting on this heartening event, it is a reminder that a small act of kindness can make a significant difference in someone's life.
