Moot Court Qualifies for Nationals

Poly’s Moot Court team recently returned from Cornell University with an award-winning track record. Led by Dean of Library and Learning Commons Aquita Winslow, the team has qualified for nationals and won several speaker and overall performance awards. Moot Court allows aspiring law students opportunities to research hypothetical briefs, compete against other teams, and receive feedback from law professionals.

This year, the team is working on a 10th amendment case about NAMCA or the Native American Medical Care Act. An exercise in both public speaking and law, a prompt is put out by the National Moot Court Association and teams must act as an appellate lawyer and argue on behalf of a client. Lily G. ’23 and Audrey T. ’24 have both received bids for nationals, speaker awards, and wrote the briefs that they have argued in moot court. Parker G. ’24 and James M. ’24  have both won speaker awards and jointly won a Sportsmanship Award. The team received the case in December, met over winter break to build the brief, and competed in their first tournament in February at Duke University. We look forward to following the teams’ national competition!
