We are thrilled to announce that Poly has become a partner school with Critical Conversations, an adult-focused speaker series presented by New Roads School that features experts from a range of fields who are at the forefront of conversations around equity and justice.

The first Critical Conversation in this year's series will be on November 17 at 5 p.m. and features Lisa Ling, award-winning journalist, host, executive producer, author, and mother. Ms. Ling's moderated discussion via Zoom will explore "America: The unfinished social experiment" and center around equity, justice, inclusion, and well-being.

About Lisa Ling

Ms. Ling is the Executive Producer and host of This is Life on CNN and Take Out on HBOMax. Take Out is an exploration of Asian American history through the lens of delicious Asian food, which is ubiquitous in the U.S. Prior to CNN, Lisa EP’d and hosted Our America on OWN, was also a field correspondent for The Oprah Winfrey Show and a contributor to ABCNews' Nightline, reporting from dozens of countries on issues that are too often ignored. Ms. Ling was the first female host of National Geographic’s flagship show Explorer and a correspondent for Channel One News, covering the civil war in Afghanistan at 21 years of age. She co-hosted ABC Daytime's hit The View, which won its first daytime Emmy during her time at the show. Lisa is the co-author of Mother, Sister. Daughter, Bride: Rituals of Womanhood, and Somewhere Inside: One Sister’s Captivity in North Korea and The Other’s Fight to Bring Her Home that she penned with her sister Laura. In 2014, President Obama appointed Lisa to the Commission on White House Fellows.

About Critical Conversations

Centered around their powerful and transformative mission and vision, the Critical Conversations series continues to grow as does its national network of public and private school partners.

Poly is excited to join a network of schools from across the U.S. and around the world—public, private, parochial, and charter—aligned around the urgent need to build the capacity of schools to advance equity, justice, and well-being through education. Our participation in the Critical Conversations series will provide a rich opportunity this school year for all the adults at our school to participate in ongoing learning and discussion that cultivates inclusion in our Poly community.
