Health Office Reminders Fall 2022

Don't Wait—Vaccinate!
Updated Boosters Approved for Children 5 and Older

Updated “bivalent” boosters have been approved for children five and older, and two months after any previous booster or primary vaccination. The Pfizer bivalent booster is for children ages 5-11, and the Moderna bivalent booster is for children ages 6-17. The updated boosters provide broader protection against both the original virus that causes COVID-19 and the more recently spreading Omicron BA.4 and BA.5 subvariants.

Children who have already had COVID-19 should still get vaccinated to strengthen their immune systems. The COVID-19 vaccines have undergone - and will continue to undergo - the most intensive safety monitoring in U.S. history.

Stay Healthy - Don’t Forget To Get Your Flu Shot!
LA County influenza surveillance shows much higher activity compared to this time of year pre-pandemic. In previous years, an early start to the season was associated with a season with substantially higher influenza activity. If you need a flu shot:
  • Call your doctor, or your local pharmacy
  • Call 2-1-1, the LA County Information Line (you can ask for locations where flu immunizations are LOW COST or FREE)
  • Visit a Los Angeles County Public Health Clinic which offers FREE flu, COVID-19 vaccinations and COVID-19 testing.
