Poly Awarded CIF Academic Achievements

The California Interscholastic Federation (CIF) not only recognizes athletic achievements, but they honor academic achievements as well. According to CIF’s website, “The academic champion program recognizes teams, participating in CIF-approved sports, with the highest collective grade-point average as requested by, and submitted to, their respective Section office. Schools shall send nominations to their Section office who, in turn, submit entries to the State CIF office.”

This year, two of Poly’s teams received CIF-SS Academic Championships for schools with an enrollment of 1,500 or under. The two teams that received the honors were girls soccer and boys water polo. To celebrate, CIF holds an event at Angels Stadium in Anaheim where representatives from each team get to go on the field to be recognized. This year, members of the girls soccer team attended the event and were able to watch the baseball game that followed.

In addition to being awarded academic champions in the Southern Section, both teams were recognized at the state level as well. The girls soccer team placed second in the state and the boys water polo team earned the title of CIF State Academic Champions for schools with an enrollment of 1,500 or less.

Congratulations to these two teams for achieving academic and athletic excellence this year!
