Poly Celebrates Senior Athletes

On June 1, Poly Athletics hosted the year-end Senior Sports Awards ceremony. Resembling times before the pandemic, it was held in Garland Theatre with students and family members in attendance. This annual event is an opportunity for the Athletics department to recognize and honor its senior athletes. Coaches briefly speak about senior athletes who have chosen to be honored. It is also an opportunity to announce the Scholar Athletes of the Year, girl and boy Athlete of the Year, and Craig Sweeney Award.

The Scholar Athlete of the Year recognizes those seniors who were able to maintain an exceptional grade point average while being able to compete at the Varsity level, embodying the true spirit of a Poly student-athlete. The recipients this year were Megan H. ’22, Jack M. ’22, and Maaso O. ’22. The Athlete of the Year recognizes athletes with outstanding athletic ability who participate on multiple Varsity teams. This year, Poly recognized Ella W-A. ’22 and  Jason M. ’22. The Craig Sweeney Memorial Athletic Award recognizes a senior who participates in more than one season of sports during his/her senior year and exemplifies leadership to others in sportsmanship, integrity, and enthusiasm in their field of play. This year, Poly alum and family member of Craig Sweeney, Scott Lindus ’84, was in attendance to present the award to this year’s recipient Matthias O. ’22.

Congratulations to these award recipients and thank you to all those in the class of 2022 who have made contributions to Poly Athletics these past four years!
