The Winter Athletic Season is in Full Swing

This week marked the first winter competitions of the season. It started with Poly’s girls basketball team as well as our boys freshmen, sophomore and JV basketball teams. The girls varsity basketball team, under the new leadership of Coach Andrew Bencze, hosted the Gauls from Webb School. The team had a strong start to the season by playing the entire squad and still dominating with a 59-34 victory. 

Poly’s girls water polo team also played in their season opener against Arcadia High School. After graduating key players last season, the team is looking to build back up the program. 

The dominance continued with Poly’s basketball teams on Wednesday. The Boys Varsity and JV Basketball teams hosted Basset High School. Both teams had a great games; winning with final scores of 76-41 (Varsity) and 82-9 (JV). 

The opening week of the Winter season wraps up with all three boys basketball levels hosting Rosemead High School Friday, November 19 in Gamble Gym. Freshmen and sophomore teams tips off at 3:30 p.m., JV follows at 5 p.m., and Varsity wraps up Friday evening with a 6:30 p.m. tipoff.

The Poly’s Girls Varsity Basketball team travels to Hart High School on Saturday, November 20. They play at 1:30 p.m. 

Poly’s soccer teams start their seasons later due to the overlapping club season. Poly’s boys teams open their season on Monday, November 22 against San Gabriel High School. The Panthers will host the Matadors at Caltech at 3:15 p.m. for the boys Varsity game and at 3:30 p.m. on Babcock Field for the JV game. Poly’s girls soccer team doesn’t see game time action until Monday, November 29.
