Girls Tennis Has Their Eyes Set on a League Title

On October 19, Poly’s Girls Varsity Tennis team hosted Westridge School on the Caltech courts in a Prep League match. The girls were on a nine-game winning streak before losing to Mayfield last week, but the girls rebounded and defeated Westridge 12-6.

Assistant Coach J.D. Gladden said, “What a thrilling victory, to clinch our first place position as we wind down the season!  The Panthers came out ready to fight after a tough loss against Mayfield, despite battling fatigue and sickness throughout our ranks.  Juliet L. ’24 had a stellar performance, defeating all three of Mayfield’s singles players (6-0, 6-1, 7-6), showing tremendous resilience, poise, and maturity to triumph 11-9 in an extended tie-breaker battle. Vanessa C. ’22 also ended the day with an epic tiebreaker victory following a dominant 6-0 win, and Clemmie A. ’23 did a phenomenal job holding strong in the second doubles position.”

The Panthers are 11-1 going into the final week of their regular season. On October 26 they will play their last home match against Chadwick where they will celebrate their four seniors. Their final match is on October 29 where they face Westridge one more time.

Wish the team luck as they close out their regular season!
