Cross-Country Returns to the Trails Without Skipping a Beat

By Coach Rick Caragher

After nearly a month of not racing (25 days due to trips), we dusted off the cobwebs and raced the trails of Santa Clarita's Central Park... and performed very well. First and foremost, the teams made a big step towards racing as a team. Racing against Division I and Division II schools, Poly's Varsity girls finished 8th out of 21 teams, frosh-soph finished 10th, and the varsity boys ended up 13th. We had three medalists (Stella K. ’25, Catie S ’25., and Daniel Z. ’25) in the races. Every Poly racer had a seasonal best in the race, and Adrian L. ’23, Phoebe S. ’23, and Michaela S. ’23 had career bests in the race. Soren F. ’25 had the biggest improvement of the season, cutting six minutes off her time.

Next up for Poly is racing on October 22 at the recently renovated Mt. SAC, where will be over 19,000 high school runners in over two days.
